When I first started here on Medium, I noticed there weren’t many articles on the ‘How To’ of becoming a spiritual writer— let’s extend that to the internet in general (Laughing).

As a Spiritual / Tarot writer on Medium, I’ve experienced a more niche follower growth, in comparison to popular writing topic categories of “Business” or “Travel” .

Over the past few months, since my first post April 7, 2022, I’m starting to see the fruits of follower traction, writing consistently on a weekly basis.

Let’s talk about purpose

As you start your journey on Medium — whether you have the most popular topic category or not, its important to remember your writing purpose. As a spiritual writer, I love discussing all things spirituality, astrology, ritual, numerology and Tarot.

Here on Medium, along with my other social media outlets provides an opportunity for me to connect in a more intimate way with readers, outside of my YouTube channel videos (Monique’s Tarot YouTube channel started February 2022).

I started my journey here on Medium April 7, 2022 after an epiphany to summarize my YouTube videos into a readable weekly overview format — again keeping in mind those readers that may desire a visual break from YouTube and catering to the everyday spiritual reader.

Something that makes my Butterfly community space special here on Medium is the ability for readers to not only have a readable overview of the week ahead or moon Tarot readings, but also a supporting video visual of the summaries.

There’s a whole host of issues a reader may be experiencing — making the importance of writing integrity of the upmost importance for spiritual writers.

Medium Publications

I’ve also been accepted into 5 Medium spiritual publications — some large and some small, but often hesitate submitting to publications, given the timely manner my articles need to be published on a weekly, bi-weekly basis.

Also as a spiritual writer, sometimes my articles are more spontaneous.

For example, I felt called to do a special reading for the most recent “World Events”, which is a more immediate spiritual call to release the information most publications can’t review and post, in the speed needed for the message to reach the collective.

Despite me working to strengthen my personal “Publication Trust” (laughing) I’m working to get better about advance planning in my writing. Publications can be an incredible asset to reach new communities as a spiritual writer!

Starting your own publication

To work around the timing issue of my writings — and to also provide a proper home outside of my profile, I decided to start my own Medium Publication, Butterfly Spirit!

Keep the needs of your audience in mind

One of my goals as a spiritual writer, is for my content to be accessible to my readers and viewers.

When readers visit your spiritual articles or videos for spiritual guidance, they may need:

Spiritual clarity and guidance relief from financial issues
Clarity on relationship issues and patterns
Clarity on personal health issues and patterns
Clarity on career and finance
Clarity on family issues and support

There’s a whole host of issues a reader may be experiencing — making the importance of writer integrity of the upmost importance, for spiritual writers on Medium and beyond.

Let’s Talk Money

So, I hear you:

Monique, isn’t the point of being a writer on Medium to make money?

The No and The Yes — Would I like to be compensated for my writing contributions on Medium faster?

Absolutely.

But, in addition to Medium I’m building on a diverse set of digital channels, with alternative revenue structures (some that are already monetized), so I can more fully enjoy the journey of spiritual writing, podcasting and video creation until I hit those “golden” milestones.

As the saying goes, you don’t have to put all of your eggs in one basket if you have multiple baskets (laughing) — that’s not the saying, but you get it.

Again, my goal is to keep my spiritual writings as accessible as possible — and with time, follower traction and monetary results will bear fruit.

I also started my personal website, moniquestarot.com in May of 2022, after posting a few articles on Medium and a few months of video content under my belt.

At this point my spiritual website moniquestarot.com is 2 months in and it has another 4 months to-go until the Google algorithm fully kicks.

The 6 month mark is a website traction milestone— a point at which Google becomes familiar with your site and the algorithm drives higher organic traffic, so my spiritual writings can reach more people. Patience, is key.

Using Medium Lists

It is also important for me as a spiritual writer to segment out the key topic areas my readers may be interested in, with Medium’s list feature.

I provide four categories of Spiritual reading lists to my readers:

Breaking my spiritual writings out into category lists is not only good for my mind as a Virgo Moon (laughing) — but also beneficial for readers to quickly access spiritual categories they seek to dive into.

Creating multiple channels of connection

Its also important to ensure, not just as a spiritual writer, but as a writer in general that you are not relying on a single platform to generate traffic to your Medium profile.

In addition to Medium, I also link articles to my post articles on my own personal website moniquestarot.com and have a Quora Space as an alternative conversation space to build my Butterfly community:

Of course as a weekly spiritual writer, my journey to 100+ on Medium may be a bit slower, but the path and learnings so far have been greatly rewarding.

While I work toward the beloved Medium Partner Program that opens up at the 100 followers mark — I enjoy connecting with my readers digitally along the way, as they join the Butterfly family.
